General Tires

General Tire is known around the world for creating a wide range of premium tires. The company has a fascinating story and rich history that dates back over 100 years. General Tire is certainly not the only tire manufacturing company in the country. However, one of the things that make them stand out from the competition is their extreme high-quality standards and affordable prices.

Where do General Tires Come From?

General Tire was founded in Akron, Ohio in 1915 by Winfred E. Fouse and William F. OŃeil. From the very beginning, customers could tell that this company was created by innovators that were not afraid to think outside of the box. In the 1920s, the company created the first-ever low-pressure tire called the ¨Balloon Jumbo.¨ The business continued to grow during the Second World War. The country was facing a tire shortage. In order to solve this problem, the owners decided to open another factory in Texas and Mexico. This gave General Tires an easier way to distribute their tires both domestically and internationally.

Is General Tire Still Made in America?

Today, the company still produces high-quality tires in the USA. In fact, it currently has a factory in Mt. Vernon, Illinois that manufacturers over three million tires each year. However, in order to serve its international customers better, General Tire also has several factories located throughout Europe.
