Differences In The General Tire Product Line

General Tire manufactures a variety of high-quality tires at an affordable price. Whether you are looking for heavy-duty tires, winter tires, all-season tires, or high-performance tires, this iconic brand is sure to have exactly what you need.

Are General Tires Highly Rated?

Yes. According to some of the most recent reviews, many people prefer General Tires over other brands. Some of the reasons why this brand is so popular are due to the fact that all of the tires are reasonably priced, they come with generous warranties, they provide a smooth and quiet ride, and they are strong and durable.

What are the Differences Between General Tires?

General Tire offers five different categories of tires.

The Passenger Tires are all-season tires that are designed for passenger cars and SUVs. They provide great traction in both wet and dry conditions.

Performance Tires are made for high-performance vehicles. The unique tread design allows the tires to grab a hold of the road at higher speeds while also maintaining traction in wet conditions.

General Tire´s Winter Tires are made by using a thick rubber compound that is able to maintain superior traction in below-freezing temperatures.

The Commercial Tires are specially designed to provide a smooth ride for commercial vehicles and trailers.

If you are wanting to equip your truck, SUV, or Jeep with a pair of rugged and durable tires, the Grabber has several all-terrain and max off-road tires to choose from.

What is the Speed Rating of General Tires?

If you look at the sidewall of the tire, you will see a bunch of numbers and letters printed across the tire. Every number and letter gives you specific information about the tire. However, the letter that is found at the end of the sequence (usually on the far right side) is the speed rating.

The speed rating tells you how fast the tire can safely go without sustaining any damage. The speed rating starts with the letter ¨L¨ and goes all the way to the letter ¨Z.¨

The speed rating are as follows:

  • L - 75 mph
  • M - 81 mph
  • N- 87 mph
  • P-93 mph
  • Q - 99 mph
  • R - 106 mph
  • S - 112 mph
  • T - 118 mph
  • U - 124 mph
  • H - 130 mph
  • V - 149 mph
  • W - 168 mph
  • Y - Over 168 mph
  • Z - Over 149 mph

The letter ¨Y¨ is the highest rating there is. If you see this letter, it means that the tire can safely travel at least 169 mph.
